There’s no doubt about it, weddings can be expensive; the average cost of a wedding today is 20 to 25 thousand dollars with an industry estimated at 25.3 billion dollars per year. This figure is not surprising when people hire expensive limousines, florists, caterers and stationery, not to mention the cost of outfits for the day; remember that just because it’s a cheap wedding does not mean that it cannot be done with style. A little guidance and cost saving ideas could make it all possible; ideas that could help you achieve your dream day for less;
A Used Bridal Gown
Almost never considered are the costs associated with the hand made wedding dress; many brides sell their dress soon after they are married and this is a sensible way to reduce the cost. As the wedding dress has probably only been worn once anyway and you can get a once expensive dress for half the price; consider buying an evening gown or cocktail dress from a department store perhaps even look into renting your dress for the day.
Reception Costs
Catering for a large number of guests means that the reception will swallow up most of the budget; statistics show that an average of 189 guests attend so when you are planning your cheap wedding, this is where most savings take place. Try and keep your guest list to a minimum: ask yourself if you really need to invite family members you haven’t seen for years; instead, opt for a three course meal or a hot and cold buffet.
To save on a costly wedding reception venue in a hotel, consider the alternatives; some people now arrange to hold them in a club house where they can place a set amount over the bar for certain beverages like beer, wine and soft drinks for the children.
Images of the Wedding
Photographers are expensive but there is generally no need to hire one for the whole day; why not have your friends and relatives take pictures during the reception. Some people save money by dispensing with the professional photographer entirely; using a friend or relation may sound strange at first but you can guarantee one of them is a keen amateur photographer.
Low Cost Personalized Invitations
If you’re on a budget and looking for less expensive wedding stationery items, then you might like to consider print-at-home stationery; there are many online stationers that will offer this service free of charge and all you pay for is the paper and envelopes. Many people have friends who are very capable cooks and love to bake so why not let them bake a two or three tier wedding cake; this can be made from sponge or even a chocolate cake which tends to be favorite amongst people these days.

One last suggestion relates to the limousine which could easily be a beautifully decorated car belonging to a friend; this is not actually that uncommon.
